What to do in case of water damage
No one is ever completely safe from water damage. Water is by far the number one enemy of rugs. It can rot the warp and weft of the rug. Be sure to remove any wet rugs and allow them to air dry. The sooner you act, the better the outcome. A rug that has suffered water damage will have its colours dulled and may bleed. If left too long in this state, the colours can mix together. A simple washing, often recommended by insurers, does not solve the problem. The rug requires a specialised treatment.

Five tips
for taking care of your rug
Tip #1: vacuum your rug once a week following the direction of the pile, which you can recognise by touch. This is the direction the fibres feel smooth, and helps prevent damage.
Tip #2: every four to five years, entrust your rug to a specialised workshop like ours, experienced in artisanal cleaning, to ensure a deep clean and preserve the rug's beauty and longevity.
Tip #3: every six months, or more frequently if the rug is heavily used, reverse its orientation. This will even out the wear and tear caused by light and foot traffic across the entire rug.
Tip #4: in fact, don't hesitate to expose your rug to foot traffic. Normal wear over the years will only enhance its beauty, giving it a kind of unique charm that develops with time.
Tip #5: take precautions against moths, especially by keeping the rug's environment dry and well ventilated (open windows regularly).

Also pay attention to the rug's quality, particularly the number of knots. The more knots, the denser, more durable, and more detailed the rug. Finally, adapt your budget to the intended use and location. For example, an entryway rug should be sturdy, but doesn't need to be expensive. In front of the sofa, however, anything goes…
